Ecova Turns 20: Two Decades of Driving Change

Martin Sieh, Chief Operating Officer at ENGIE Insight

This year, ENGIE Insight (formerly Ecova) is celebrating 20 years of powerful results in the field of energy and sustainability. We’ve transformed substantially since 1997, when 17 employees of Washington Water Power (WWP) Energy Solutions had a vision to help companies better understand how they were using energy. Today, backed by the financial strength and resources of our parent company, ENGIE, ENGIE Insight leads the industry in delivering value to our clients while shaping a better energy future.

All across North America, ENGIE Insight is commemorating this milestone in a variety of ways. We recently held celebrations—with a ‘90s theme, in recognition of our decade of origin—at each of our office locations, and were especially pleased to have Frank Demaille, President and CEO of ENGIE North America, join the festivities in Spokane.

Throughout May, we’re honoring our 20 years of making an impact with a designated Community Service Month. ENGIE Insight’s standard community service benefit, which provides employees with eight hours of paid time off to volunteer with the organization of their choice, has been extended by four hours. Special volunteer events have also been organized by teams at each office. This initiative builds on ENGIE Insight’s commitment to giving back to the communities in which we live in work, as summarized in our 2016 Corporate Responsibility Report. Last year, our employees gave back a total of 7,824 volunteer hours—the equivalent of nearly four full-time employees. This year we hope to build on that impact and achieve 9,000 hours of service to our communities.

Above all, ENGIE Insight’s 20th anniversary provides us with the chance to see how much we’ve grown since 1997. This evolution would not be possible without the support of the organizations we serve—from more than 800 commercial and industrial businesses to nearly 60 utilities and energy efficiency partners. Their confidence and collaboration has enabled ENGIE Insight to grow from a small startup to a global company delivering over 150 TWh in lifetime energy savings in partnership with our utility clients, and over $2.7 billion in identified savings for our commercial and industrial clients over the last 4 years. And with countless exciting developments on our horizon, we look forward to continuing this legacy of shared success for many more years to come.

Please join ENGIE Insight in celebrating two decades of transforming the energy landscape by watching our 20th anniversary video below and checking our website for updates. In the weeks to come, we’ll be sharing more stories from the past 20 years and giving you a glimpse into ENGIE Insight’s future.
